Course Content

  • Fall Term (Part 1 – First Six Weeks): Students begin with core courses tailored to their academic background. You may join the Accelerated Track if your previous degree is in economics, engineering, mathematics, or sciences, or the Business Track if you already hold a degree in management or business.


  • Fall Term (Part 2 – Next Six Weeks): You then specialize in either Capital Markets or Corporate Finance, depending on the track you selected during your application.


  • Spring Term: The curriculum expands with advanced core courses and the opportunity to choose nine electives from over 30 options (subject to availability). This flexibility allows students to customize their learning path to match their career goals.


Beyond academics, HEC Paris offers a rich set of workshops, events, and immersive experiences throughout the year. Highlights include the Hi!Paris Data Bootcamp, the Hi!Paris Hackathon, the London Study Trip, CV and interview preparation workshops, and on-campus career fairs.


To complete the program, students participate in one of the 10 prestigious HEC Certificates and undertake a Research Paper, giving them both academic depth and practical expertise to excel in the global finance industry.

Admissions


HEC Paris welcomes applications from candidates of all nationalities who demonstrate strong academic excellence, fluency in English, and a solid quantitative background. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a recognized international institution.

The program offers two entry tracks, each with specific requirements:


Business Track


  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an international institution (2:1 honors or above, or equivalent such as Dean’s List).

  • Prior training (at least introductory level) in:

    • Financial Accounting

    • Corporate Finance

    • Investments

    • Derivatives

    • Business Statistics

    • Calculus


Accelerated Track


  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an international institution, or a Master’s degree from a French university or engineering school (Grande École) with 2:1 honors or above (or equivalent such as Dean’s List).


Admission Process


The selection for the HEC Paris Masters in Finance follows a two-phase process:


Application Review – The admissions committee evaluates your application and supporting documents.


Interview – Shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview (either face-to-face or via Zoom) to assess motivation, academic fit, and career goals.


Required Supporting Documents:


  • Degree certificate(s) or current enrollment certificate

  • All official academic transcripts (including exchange programs) with GPA

  • Résumé (CV)

  • GMAT, GRE (including shorter version), or TAGE-MAGE official score report

    • No minimum score required

    • GMAT: Upload online test screenshot + send official report via mba.com

    • GRE: Upload test-taker report + send scores via ETS (code: 3623, no department code needed)

  • English language proficiency test (TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, or Cambridge)

    • No minimum score required

    • Waived for native speakers or students with a degree fully taught in English

  • Two online reference forms (at least one academic)

    • Should be submitted before the application deadline

    • If uploaded by the candidate, letters must be in PDF with referee’s signature

  • Passport-style photo

  • Non-refundable application fee: €190

Where do I start if I want to study at HEC Paris?

How do I know if I am eligible for the program of my choice?

To apply for our Master’s programs, candidates must hold at least a bachelor’s degree and have less than three years of work experience, as these programs are designed for pre-experience students.


Some programs also have specific eligibility requirements, including:

  • Mastère Spécialisé / LLM Droit et Management International (taught in French)

  • MSc Data Science & AI for Business X-HEC

  • MSc Data & Finance X-HEC

  • Mastère Spécialisé Médias, Art et Création (taught in French)

Do I need to speak French to study at HEC Paris? What are the language requirements at HEC Paris?

At HEC Paris, most programs are taught entirely in English. However, a few programs require French proficiency:

  • Droit et Management International

  • Médias, Arts et Création

  • MSc X-HEC Entrepreneurs (recommended: B1 level)

English Proficiency

  • All programs require an English proficiency test at C1 level.

  • This requirement is waived if you are:

    • A native English speaker (e.g., UK, US, New Zealand, etc.), OR

    • A student who completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree fully taught in English.


Accepted Tests


HEC Paris accepts: TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, and TOEIC (online versions also accepted).

  • All four sections (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening) must be graded.

  • Test validity: 5 years (except Cambridge, which is valid indefinitely).

  • Tests must be valid by the application deadline.


How to Submit Your Scores


Are there any other tests required for admission?

  • Accepted tests: GMAT (old + Focus + online), GRE (shortened included), TAGE MAGE (except for M2M Yale).


  • No preference: You can choose any of the above, whichever suits you.


  • Recommended scores (not minimums):

    • GMAT Focus: 645–655 (≈700 old GMAT)

    • GRE: 320

    • TAGE MAGE: 440


  • Requirement: A management test score is mandatory (cannot be waived).


  • Timing:

    • You should take the test before applying.

    • If needed, you can apply with unofficial scores but must provide official scores within 1 week after the deadline.


  • Score submission:


    • GMAT / GMAT Focus: Upload a screenshot (if online test) + send official score via mba.com.

    • GRE: Upload your score report + send official scores through ETS using code 3623 (no dept. code needed).

    • TAGE MAGE: HEC will verify directly with FNEGE – you don’t need to do anything.
